Following our publication of the 1821 Returns for Aglish and of the 184! Returns for the two largest townlands in the parish, we here print the Returns for 1851. Aglish is the only parish in Ireland for which both the 1821 and 1851 Census survives. Study of the families on Aglish and Portnahully townJands in the three returns produce some
interesting information on the pattern of families and their movements in the first half of the 19th century - and comparison of 1841 and 1851 amply demonstrates the unreliability of the alleged ages of adults!
