Killed on the Rail.
George Bardol, aged 26, a switchman employed in the R., W. & O. yards in this city was instantly killed at 7:30 Friday morning while at work on the Cape Vincent branch near the round house. A train had been made up and Bardol was standing on the front of the engine that was pulling six crippled cars near the shops. The cars were pulled out on the main track and afterward shoved back toward the standing train. Bardol was standing on the switching engine. The crippled cars came up against the rear of the other train and they came together with such force that the first car next to the engine was forced over the cow catcher and caught Bardol between the engine and the car with fatal effect. The man's face was bruised, his back was probably broken and his legs, especially his left leg, very badly mangled. Bardol was instantly killed.
Bardol was unmarried and lived with his mother in a house which they had purchased near the corner of Meadow, and Prospect streets. He was well liked by his fellow workmen and employers.
Bardol was a resident of Rosiere until about a year ago. Upon the death of his father two years ago, a farmer in Rosiere, the support of his widowed mother devolved upon him, as he was the only son. A year ago they came to Watertown to live and for a time he worked in the freight house in this city until he accepted the position which he held at the time of his death.
Coroner Smith was notofied of the accident and an inquest was held Friday evening. After listening to the evidence of several witnesses the jury found that Bardol came to his death by a collision of trains drawn by switch engines No. 11 and 28 in the yard of the R., W. & O. railroad company at Watertown, N. Y., at about 7:30 A. M., June 5, 1891. They also found the crew with engine No. 28 had not a sufficient number of men to perform the duties required in handling crippled cars.

A Widow's Sudden Death.
Mrs. Mary Bardoll, a highly respected lady who resided at 13 Meadow Street, died very suddenly and unexpectedly at her home last evening before medical aid could be summoned. Mrs. Bardoll was a widow, and besides herself, two boarders lived with her. One of them was gone, yesterday, and so was not at the house last evening. The other, whose name is Charles Sitts, and who is employed in the Union Carriage and Gear company's work, returned to Mr. [Mrs.] Bardoll's home about 9. He conversed with her for a few moments, and then went to his room. He did not notice anything strange in Mrs. Bardoll's actions, and in her conversation with him she seemed to be as bright and cheerful as usual, and was looking forward with much pleasure to a sleigh ride soon. About 9:30, the young man went to his room and retired. The room is located on the ground floor. It was nearly 10, when he awoke from a slight slumber and heard Mrs. Bardoll groaning. He hastily arose from his bed, dressed himself and as quickly as possible went to the suffering woman's assistance. After he had reached the sitting room where Mrs. Bardoll was, she took a lamp and went into the kitchen, and it is thought while there she took some peppermint or wintergreen to ease the pain, as the smell of it could be plainly scented afterwards. However, she quickly came back to the sitting room in a more distressed condition, it seemed, than before. She sat down in a chair, and the agonies she suffered can be better imagined than described. The young man aroused the neighbors and then hastened for a physician. He summoned Dr. H. H. Smith, but when he arrived at Mrs. Bardoll's home, the unfortunate woman had expired.
