John Palmer and John Wheeler were put to the bar, charged with stealing two sacks of wool from the warehouse of Mr. George Jackson, at Abingdon, in MArch last. - It appeared that the wool was all right on the 1st of March, but that on the next morning it was missed. The prisoners were seen on the turnpike roadr leading to Witney, each carrying a sack of wool, and John Biggers, of Witney, proved buying the same of them. The wool was identified, and the prisoners were founf guilty. [Evidence was given of two former convictions of Pahner: at Abingdon in 1824, and in Oxford in 1826.] - The prisoners were them tried on an indictment for breaking into a warehouse and stealing wool on the 27th of February last, the property of George Jackson; but there being no evidence against Palmer his Lordship directed an acquittal. Wheeler was found guilty of stealing the wool, but not with breaking into the warehouse. --John Palmer was then tried and convicted on an indictment for stealing wool from the boat-house in Sutton Wick, in February last. - Palmer was sentenced to transportation for life, and Wheeler for fourteen years.
