  • Notes 
    • Some records indicate Jacob was born in Lafargeville, Jefferson County, New York (See records of Ila Manwell). Jacob (Jake) Hoover bought the old homestead on Ormes Rd., Vassar (6284 Ormes) from the government, date unknown. It isn't in the family anymore. He and his wife originally came from New York. He was a gardener on a big estate and she was a cook. They fell in love, were married and came to Michigan. They stayed but for a short time and returned to NY. It is believed that all three children were born in NY and that they returned to Michigan in 1869 and bought the above mentioned (about 1 and 1/2 miles from our home here on Ormes Rd.Kittie Hoover Haines (Jacob's daughter) and Neta Haines Roles ( Jacob's grand daughter) and Alice Roles Beach (his great-granddaughter) were all married in this old house.(Hilda Blasius) Jacob or Jake was a farmer and milkman. He served in the Civil War, Co K, 10th NY Heavy Artillery. Jacob is burried in the Riverside Cem, Vassar, Michigan.Jacob is buried in the Riverside Cem,, Vassar, Tuscola Co., Michigan.
