This indenture made the eighteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty between Peter Rector of the Town of Cape Vincent Jefferson County & State of New York of the first part, and John Reff of the same place & Michael Reff of the second part witnesseth that the said party of the first part in consideration of the sum of Ten Hundred & fifty dollars lawful money of the United States of America paid to him by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold released and confirmed and by these presents does grant bargain sell release and confirm to the said part of the second part heirs and assigns all that certain piece of land situated in the town of Lyme formerly now Cape Vincent County of Jefferson and State of New York being part of Lot Nos. Three Hundred Eighty eight & Three Hundred ninety six of the subdivisions of Great Lot No. four of Macombs Purchase and bounded as follows viz.
Beginning in the centre of the Cape Vincent Turnpike on the Bridge at the point of intersection where Kent Creek and the Bridge cross each other, thence northwesterly thirty chains along land formerly conveyed to Elisha P. Dodge to a point forty links South thirty six & three fourths degrees west from a post standing in the fence cornered and marked P. B., thence north thirty six & three fourths degrees east nineteen chains & fifty three links to a post twelve links north from a Baswood tree cornered & marked P. B., thence along the northerly line of the lot south fifty three & a fourth degrees east twenty five chains thirty three links on a parallel with the Turnpike to the centre of Kents Creek south fifty three and a forth degrees east thirty links from a post cornered & marked P. B. standing on the bank of the creek; thence down the creek as it winds and turns to the place of beginning, containing fifty acres more or less.
Together with the hereditaments and appurtenances and all the estate right title and interest of him the said party of the first part of in or to the same and the reversions and remainders thereof. To have and to hold all and singular the said premises hereby granted to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns to the proper use of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever, subject to the conditions and stipulations contained in the letters patent whereby the lands were originally granted. And the said party of the first part doth hereby for himself his heirs executors and administrators covenant with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns that he the said party of the first part immediately before the ensealing and delivering hereof was seized of the said premises of an estate in fee simple therein also that he has power to sell and convey the same as hereby intended. Also that the said party of the said party of the second part and his heirs and assigns shall quietly and peaceably hold and enjoy the same. Also that the premises is free from encumbrances, and he the said party of the first part and his heirs the said premises to the said party of the second part and his heirs against all persons does and will warrant and defend forever by these presents. In witness ehreof the said party of the first part hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written.

Peter Reff, was a native of France and served under Napoleon. He came to America at the age of 40 years and died in Cape Vincent aged 86 years. His wife, Mary, a native of Germany, bore him four children, viz.: Peter, John, Michael, and Barbara. Peter, who was born in France, came to America with his father and located in this town, where he died in 1852 aged 35 yrs. He married Delia, daughter of Joseph Wiley, of Cape Vincent who was a native of Germany, and their children were Peter, John, Michael, Mary, Delia, Mary A., Eugens, Christopher, Julia, and Margaret. John Reff married Kate, daughter of Peter and Mary (Turney) Delmarsh, of Clayton, and their children are May L., Frances H., Carrie E., Lettie L, and Winfred E. He served in Co. B, 20th N.Y. Cav. three years and was honorably discharged at the close of the war. He is now a resident of St. Lawrence village.
