What is this?

These two old pieces of cardboard were together with the buttons once in the posession of my grandmother, Gladys Mary Fraley. They were found amoung her things when my mother travelled back to Syracuse for my grandmother's funeral.
I am not positive, but I think my grandmother had taken French lessons in school or someone had tutored her.
