Text | 5522 Peter Reff Naturalization Papers 1842 Filed March 1, 1842 State of New York, Jefferson County, Peter Reff being duly sworn doth depose and say that he is a native of France of the Kingdom of France; and lately owing allegiance to the King of the French; that he is the age of fifty six years; that he came to the United States in the year eighteen hundred and thirty four and has continued to reside within the juristiction of the United States for more than five years last past, without permanently departing the same during the said term; and that it has been his bona fide intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Power, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, for more than five years past; and especially that of the King of the French, and become a citizen of the United States of America. his Peter X Reff mark Sworn in open Court, this 1st day of March 1842 Daniel Lee, Clerk State of New York, Jefferson County, ss: I, Peter Reff, do swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States of America, and that I do absolutely and entirely renounce and adjure all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Power, Potentate and Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to the King of the French whose subject I was. And further, that I have never borne any hereditary title, or been of any of the degrees of nobility. his Peter X Reff mark Sworn in open Court, this 1st day of March 1842 Daniel Lee, Clerk State of New York, Jefferson County, ss: Warner Failing and John Schmidling of the county aforesaid, being severally sworn, depose and say that they are citizens of the United States and have been acquainted with Peter Reff for more than five years, last past; that said Peter Reff has resided wihin the United States for more than five years, last past; and within the State of New York five years; that he has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same.
