His sons were Henry, John, and Jacob. Interesting that your Henry also had brothers John and Jacob, which indicates a possible family relationship. In different records, I have found that Conrad came from Switzerland, Germany or Holland, but nothing concrete on this. He was one of the first deaths in our area and the 2nd burial in the UEL cemetery. The family were indeed involved in Butlers Rangers. One internet source claims he was a son of a Jacob Hover (Huber) I am including some information on the family as attachment. Much of the early info comes from son Henry Hover (Hoover) who is rather well written up in our area. The best article on the family was written in 1869 in William Canniff's book, The Settlement of Upper Canada. I have also scanned and attached two pages for you that discuss the Hover family. Hope some of this helps you Brian ------------------------------------------------- ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: rootsdigger05@comcast.net To: 1784@uel.ca Sent: Monday, January 16, 2012 12:38:27 PM Subject: Casper Huber Mr. Brian Tackaberry President UEL Heritage Centre 54 Adolphustown Park Road Bath, Ontario K0H 1G0 Dear Mr. Tackaberry, I am writing you in hopes of finding more information about Casper Huber, a purported member of the United Empire Loyalists. According to William V.H. Barker (Early Families of Herkimer County, New York, pg. 144) Casper Huber and his two sons (Henry and Jacob)appeared on the United Empire Loyalist 'list'. To give you some background about me, I am a descendant of Captain Henry Huber (Hoover). To read more about Henry Huber, see this page of my web site: http://www.rootsdigger.org/getperson.php?personID=I345&tree=1 My research indicates a strong probability that Casper Huber and Henry Huber were brothers, given that Casper, along with John Huber and Jacob Huber, appeared on Captain Henry Huber's payroll (Tryon County Militia) at Burnetsfield, NY, June 1779. I would like to solidify this sibling relationship between Casper/Kasper/Kaspar/Kasbar Huber and Henry Huber with further documentation. Can you help? Sincerely, Paul Kelly | Huber, Casper (I10110)

[according to Thomas Tear there were 4 children - possibly a babe in arms was not included as for James Tear above ?] Peter Howland, 25, Tailor, is also shown as from Isle of Man but this could be an error in filling out the manifest as the next passenger is from Ireland. See account in chap 14/17 of Manx, Isle of Man History of Manx People who came to America Thomas Tear quoted William Tear, jnr, as 15 but did say that at that time the Manx did not pay great attention to birthdates, and that Joaney Gawne came from Jurby; the IGI lists a marriage William Tear and Joney Gawne at Andreas 24 Mar 1808; their eldest son William was christened on 28 March 1813 at Andreas. Taken from: http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/famhist/genealgy/voyages.htm The account left by Thomas Tear is probably much more typical of the type of conditions encountered by the the 'middle class' Manx emigrants of the 1820's and 1830's. We were finally put on board a small brig, if I remember rightly, of 200 tons, but seems wrong, to me, as she had on 200 passengers, mostly Irish [ see Act of 1819 The passenger quarters had three rows of berths all around, and there were two low benches, which was all the furniture there was in our part. There were two hatches over the passengers, affording all the light and ventilation that passengers had, and if It was rough, these were partly closed. There was a coal fire, in a grate on deck for the passengers to cook by. One man died on the passage, but to me, the wonder, is that half of them were not dead. The scent down there in that dirty, ill-ventilated hole, was anything but sweet. Mother was sick all the way, also Mrs. Gawne, but the rest, stood it well. The burden of cooking fell on my oldest sister, but she seemed to benefit by it. The passengers carried and cooked their own provisions, and as the fire would not accommodate them all at once. This made considerable dissatisfaction, eating was done, without setting of tables, and just as you could catch it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The following is some info. I have accumulated quite a few primary and secondary documents, copies and originals as well. The Hoover file for Silas and his immediate family and descendants is over an inch thick. There is extensive correspondence with several distant cousins which have excellent family records including journals, Bible records and histories to whom I owe a great deal. I have the information consolidated onto family group records. I will begin by sending you just Silas' family and will include documentation or at least footnotes for sources. Now, tell me how you'd like to receive the information. I suppose a hard copy via mail would be OK. I might also be able to send it as an attachment to an e-mail. Can you open PAF gedcom? For some reason or another I can only send single families as an attachment. So I'll begin with Silas Hoover's family. Let me know if you have any problems opening the file. I'm sure you'll have some questions about sources, particularly in the case of Silas' mother, Elizabeth Stahring. How did I know she was Jacobus' wife. How and why did I decide Jacubus Hoover was married to Elizabeth Stahring. What proof do I have? I"l review my notes and explain why I think she was. Give me some time on that one! As I have said already, much of the information on Silas' family and descendants comes from family Bibles, Hoover Bibles, personal journals, letters, obituaries, etc. in possession of Silas' various descendants who lived across a wide area in Southern Michigan. With the passing of the older Hoover descendants who possessed them in the early 1960's, they have now been passed on to others. Who has them is unknown to me. Hilda Blasius and others I wrote or spoke with quote them in their records and correspondence. I can only note who had possession of them at the time of my research and trust that the information was copied accurately. To date, I haven't found anything in any sources that would contradict their information. Everything I've found collaborates with their records. Having said that, let me know how many generations you would like of the Hoover record, much of which I have yet to enter in my PAF record. Following up on messages from Al I currently have a John HARRIS m to an Ann MAYCOCK 21st October 1798 in Stanton Harcourt. As yet I only have one child, James HARRIS born 16th January 1804 in Southleigh. Could it be that I have not found other children and your Frances is a sister? I am checking through the Southleigh transcripts from OFHS (so far nearly finished Southleigh then onto Stanton Harcourt etc..) but have not found the parents of John. There seem to be several likely candidates from the area (Witney) making him difficult to pin down. I hope to link him in to my main line of enquiry (my wife's family) which is from a Caesar HARRIS from Barrington, just over the county border in Gloucestershire. Here again there are two to choose from born within three years of one another (perhaps cousins?), one from Little Barrington and one from Great Barrington. If anyone can help with either of these I would be eternally greatful! :o) Sorry it is not straight forward but it appears so far that Al is correct in thinking there could be two HARRIS lines in Southleigh (or may be more?). Nevertheless, there are many populations in Oxon., with concentrations of Harrises. The big problem is that the PRs often don't cover the 16th century and you will have to rely in many places on Wills. You could start with the Will of Samuel HARRIS of Chipping Norton, in 1616, then within a reasonably small radius, that of William HARRYS of Chilson, Charlbury in 1554, followed by that of Joane HARRYS, probably his widow, in 1558. There is also the Will of Symon HARRYS, mason, of Charlbury, 1588, John HARRYS of Hook Norton, 1592, widow Margaret, 1594, Ralph HARRIS of Kingham, 1603. There is then a continung series of Harris wills for Chilson and Charlbury, up to the 18th century.
